About Prairie Ranch

We are located in Western Washington, near the town of Yelm. We currently raise Wensleydale Sheep. We are helping introduce the Wensleydale Sheep to the United States.  We have 50% and 75% crosses on the ground now.  This spring we will be seeing 70% lambs and above. We will be reducing our herd quite a bit and have several bred ewes for sale as well as lambs when they arrive.

We also enjoy the company of 2 Standard Schnauzers. Our oldest, named Tessa, runs the house and tries to run the farm. Our yourger SS is Lexi. She is black and has a wonderful funny personality. In 2002 we added 2 Polish Tatra Mountain Dogs.  These dogs are used as Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGD) and ours have been learning to serve this purpose.  They came to us from Poland.   In 2003 we added another  Polish Tatra

Mountain Dogs who comes to us from Finland. 2004 saw the loss of one of our first Tatra's. She crossed over the rainbow bridge in March of that year. We miss her dearly.
       

Our animals have really added to our life and become an important part of our day-to-day existence. Each one has its own unique qualities.

We are really happy to be a part of the alternative livestock community. We have enjoyed country living for the past 19+ years and have added to our ranch over that time. We started with Romney sheep to help “mow” the grass and it has grown from there.
